TouchDesigner Fulldome Simulator TOX — THE INFRANET
TOOL DEVELOPMENT · TOUCHDESIGNER

The TouchDesigner Fulldome Simulator is a lightweight component (.tox) for previewing fulldome projections. It wraps any 2D or 3D visual onto a virtual dome and shows the exact deformation it will have once projected across a real dome surface — making it possible to inspect fine details and understand how visuals behave before they ever reach a planetarium.

It was built to test real-time visuals inside TouchDesigner before export, and was presented at the TouchDesigner Meetup STGO at Planetario Huechuraba, Chile. The tool ships with three projection templates, accepts any TOP as its input source, and lets you tilt the dome to match real-world rigs.

An interactive camera lets you step inside the dome and explore from the spectator's point of view, with a configurable Sweet Spot grid to focus the viewer's vision. For 3D sources it expects a square FishEye Equidistant (180°) render; the result can be exported frame by frame through a Movie File Out node.

Its uses span previewing content before a dome show, understanding how flat images or 3D renders deform on a dome, and real-time prototyping for immersive installations, VJ sets and planetarium content. Released as an open beta (v0.2) and shared with the wider TouchDesigner community.
